The Great Britain-based New Medium Enterprises (NME) has developed a new format that the fight can go with the Blu-ray discs: the Versatile Multilayer Disc (VMD). VMD fits on a 50 GB of data and in contrast to previously mentioned formats VMD makes use of the red instead of blue laser.
Current DVDs are two layers on one side inns, while the VMD discs have four.
When the multilayer technology is combined with the blue-laser. Discs can be produced with more than 200 GB data.
